Viet Nam Improved Cookstove Project

Viet Nam Improved Cookstove Project provides communities with high efficient cookstoves that benefits the environment and improves health. The stoves are high quality products and manufactured in Vietnam, which employs more than 300 people. It is important to note that 51.4 % of Vietnam’s primary household energy still comes from solid fuel. The majority of this is burnt on smoky open fires and inefficient cookstoves, leading to indoor air pollution causing respiratory disease, and contributing to global climate change. Cooking smoke, which caused most affects women and children, contributes to a range of chronic illnesses and acute health impacts such as early childhood pneumonia, emphysema, lung cancer, bronchitis, cardiovascular disease, and low birth weight. This increased efficiency also cuts carbon emissions, speeds up cooking time and significantly improves health by reducing smoke emissions during cooking. Up to date, 334,000 cookstoves has been distributed and more than 400,000 carbon credits has been issued, the program targeted to distribute 1,000,000 cookstoves in all over Vietnam and in so doing reduce more than 2,500,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
